- Gan Cao harmonizes the formula and moderates spasms.
Function: Clears heat, purges fire, promotes urination, unblocks Lin syndrome.
Diagnosis: Heat Lin syndrome and Bloody Lin syndrome due to damp heat flowing downward to UB.
Indications: Dark, turbid, scanty, difficult, dripping and painful urination. In severe cases, there may be urinary retention, abdominal distention and pain. Dry mouth and throat.
Tongue: Red tongue with yellow and greasy coating.
Pulse: Slippery and rapid.
Clinical Applications:
- This formula is commonly used for Lin syndrome due to damp heat.
- The key symptoms are frequent, urgent, painful, and burning urination, yellow and greasy tongue coating, rapid pulse.
- For bloody Lin syndrome, add Sheng Di Huang, Da Xiao Ji, and Bai Mao Gen.
- For urinary stone with Lin syndrome, add Jin Qian Cao, Hai Jin Sha, Ji Nei Jin and Hu hang.
- For Turbid Lin syndrome, add Bei Xie and Shi Chang Pu.
- This formula is currently used for UTI, urinary stones, and acute prostatitis due to damp heat.
Cautions and Contraindications: This formula should not be used without significant modification in treating conditions of Kd deficiency or during pregnancy.
