- Fu Zi strongly warms Sp and Kd Yang.
- Fu Ling strengthens the Sp, drains dampness, and promotes urination.
- Sheng Jiang helps Fu Zi to warm the Yang and dispel cold, helps Fu Ling to warm and disperse water retention.
- Bai Zhu strengthens Sp, dries dampness to assist the Sp in transporting and transforming functions.
- Bai Shao promotes urination, moderates muscle spasms to relieve abdominal pain, prevents the side effects of other herbs from possibly injuring the Yin.
Function: Warms the Sp and Kd Yang, promotes urination.
Indications:
- Water retention due to Sp and Kd Yang deficiency, characterized by urinary difficulty, heaviness and pain of the extremities, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or edema in the limbs, no thirst. White tongue coating, and deep pulse.
- Taiyang disease after diaphoresis that does not reduce fever, but the excessive sweating depletes the body fluids and Yang, characterized by palpitations, dizziness, vertigo, and shivering, trembling with unsteady appearance.
Clinical Applications:
- This is the famous formula for warming the Yang and promoting urination.
- The key symptoms are urinary difficulty, heaviness or edema of extremities, white tongue coating, deep pulse.
- For cases with coughing, add Gan Jiang, Xi Xin, and Wu Wei Zi.
- For severe diarrhea, omit Bai Shao, replace with Gan Jiang and Yi Zhi Ren.
- For vomiting, add Wu Zhu Yu and Ban Xia.
- Currently used for chronic nephritis, cardiogenic edema, hypothyroidism, chronic bronchitis, chronic enteritis, intestinal TB, Meniere's disease due to Sp and Kd Yang deficiency with water damp retention.
