- Cang Zhu is used in high dosage. Strongly dries MJ dampness to promote transformation and transportation function of the Sp.
- Hou Po promotes the Qi movement, dries dampness, reduces distention, and eliminates fullness.
- Chen Pi regulates the Qi movement, harmonizes the St, and aromatically revives the Sp.
- Gan Cao harmonizes the MJ.
- Sheng Jiang and Da Zao harmonize the Spleen and Stomach.
Function: Dries dampness, improves transporting function of the Sp, promotes Qi movement, and harmonizes the St.
Diagnosis: Dampness obstructing the Spleen and Stomach.
Indications: Distention and fullness in the epigastrium and abdomen, loss of taste and appetite, nausea and vomiting, belching, acid regurgitation, heavy sensation in the limbs, fatigue, increased desire to sleep, loose stool or diarrhea.
Tongue: White, greasy and thick coating
Pulse: Moderate
Clinical Applications:
- This formula is bitter and dry, very effective in drying dampness and promoting Qi.
- The key symptoms are distention and fullness in the epigastrium and abdomen, white, thick, greasy tongue coating.
- For cases with damp heat, add Huang Lian and Huang Qin.
- For cases with cold damp, and Gan Jiang and Cao Dou Kou.
- For cases with food stagnation, add Shan Zha and Shen Qu.
- For cases with severe Qi stagnation, add Xiang Fu and Sha Ren.
- Currently used for chronic gastritis, dysfunction of digestive tract, colitis, and peptic ulcers due to dampness obstructing the MJ.
Cautions and Contraindications: Only used for excessive patterns! Contraindicated in cases due to Yin deficiency and Qi stagnation, spleen and stomach deficiency without dampness; used with caution during pregnancy.
